The Kerygma as a Foundational Component of Paul’s Missional Methodology

Abstract

An exegetical analysis of Romans 10:8-17 reveals Paul’s kerygmatic focus as foundational to his missionary methodology. Paul demonstrated a missionary method within Romans 10 that set forth a golden chain of missions. He demonstrated the connection between 1) the preacher’s call, 2) the message they proclaim, 3) the hearer’s response through confession and belief, 4) the response of dependence upon Christ, and 5) the salvation that ensues. Therefore, what connection, if any, exists between Paul’s kerygmatic proclamation and his missionary method? This research argues that when the New Testament employs the word kerysso, the proclamation comprises the person and work of Jesus Christ, culminating in salvation.
